PC only? It's a lie!

It arrived at last, the sought after Enhanced Edition of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and I quite enjoyed the package. It has a 3D effect quite similar to the Auditore Edition of Assassin's Creed Revelations with the  usual wolf logo. This is another one I'm keeping sealed and the main reason why I bought it it's because it suddenly became sold out!

So good...

The spiritual successor of Shenmue gets another release, and it's the 5th game in european territory. Yakuza Dead Souls received this steelbook limited edition. I loved this game, yet I've only played up to the 3rd title and didn't finish it. But I really enjoyed the storyline. The gameplay was average at first but once I started to get used to the fighting system I loved it! I really did. I am still missing the australian versions of the previous game, but with time I'll get them. I'm just quite glad that I bought this, even though I hate steelbooks.

Impressive!

Yes, impressive! I don't see many press kits lying around in my country. Actually, I've only seen like 4 or 5 at most over the years. Then one day I was looking at this website and came across something that caught my attention because I had never seen it bfore: playable review codes for both Ico & Shadow of Colossus HD + God of War Collection Vol. 2 with a unique package. It certainly is not a very big deal, but for a collector like me, I couldn't resists. It's the first and only time I ever saw this. How could I miss it, especially knowing they now complete my collection of games from two important series. And I don't have the retail versions yet as well but now I do have a special copy of the two games =)

That awkward moment...

... when I'm not sure if I've already post something about a new purchase I made. I don't update this blog a lot of times mainly because I don't have the time. After a while I forget if I have already posted pictures of a particular game or not. Happened this time with the Sonic Generations Press Kit that I got a few months ago.

Very sweet. This one even includes a promo copy of the game =)

So Come For Press Kit!

And yet another Socom game was released and with it a fairly original press kit. It seemed bad when I first saw it, but after I finally managed to purchase one. This is an inflatable press kit. It originally came with all the air. Seems waterproof as well but I don't intend to find out by myself if it really is. The contents are okay, a little poor, but the package that seems to be just a crappy plastic bag it's actually pretty nice, far better than I expected (not wonderful though, but good enough anyway).

'It sucks and it's very expensive', I said. 'No way I'll get it!'

I lied. I honestly wasn't expecting to buy this edition because the price seems very off considering the contents and the quality of the head gear. However, I still made a preorder on amazon to make sure I wouldn't miss it if it really became sold out and hard to get. That never really happened fortunately.

As I was walking around the videogame section of a particular store, I noticed the new Saint Seiya game was on the shelves already. With it I also noticed the myth Cloth Box Edition. That edition is pretty weak... The box is dull gray and not shiny, it has an average size, it only brings a DLC code and a t-shirt and all the items are loose inside the box. What a shame...

Suddenly, the wild Head Gear Edition appears in from of my eyes. At first I didn't eve realize that was the real thing. I can only think of a particular box that rivals the huge size this edition has, and it's the Crysis 2 Nano Edition. Yeah, the Head Gear Edition has almost the same size. And the box looks very good. I must say that the shiny packaging is an irresistible eyecandy unlike the cheaper collector's edition. Still, I resisted the initial temptation and didn't buy it. I came home and tried to find unboxing videos of that edition. I eventually found a french website with pictures. That's when I suddenly realised that the head gear included was made by branpresto and includes a numbered certificate of authenticity. Only 5000 exist...

A couple of days later I visited this store and found one edition for a cheaper price than amazon. That was the final drop. I immediately grabbed it and bought it before I changed my mind. In the end: totally worth it!

When I first heard about this...

And here I was surfing on the internet... and suddenly I found out about this particular Mass Effect 3 Alliance Edition limited to 1200 copies and exclusive to Gamestop Italy. How great, a very limited edition from a store that does not ship internationally even though they have stores in most european countries!

Not just that... it was already sold out. Awesome! I missed something far more interesting than the regular n7 edition, because the N7 edition is in fact included in that major box set!

Well, after making my mind and deciding to sell some stuff I have, I finally got enough money to order one off ebay for a far higher price.

I must say that I am actually disappointed with it in the end... It certainly looks something really good but it's so... I don't know, the quality is quite low! The notebook is just that, an empty notebook with nothing on it and a Mass Effect cover. Other than that it's close to worthless. The Alliance ship model doesn't have a proper package and it can be bought separately. The supposed lithograph is just a printed sticker. The N7 edition actually DOES NOT FIT because the space reserved for the game is only for the regular game and not for the CE. That SUCKS! And the interiors are made of very fragile card and as a result my edition came slightly damaged and I now I'm trying to fix it. The only thing that makes it worth it is the low numbers produced. Other than that, it's a good edition to be purchased for 130 euros (the original retail price) but not worth far more than that...

Tools of Mass Creativity

One of the most impressive press kits I have ever seen. I nave knew it existed in the first place. Its awesomeness deserved more than just a picture with a background, so as a result, here's the unboxing video I've posted on Youtube:

Soul Calib*u*r V

And the 5th title of a fighting series that started on DC (yeah, PS1 etc, I know...) is finally here! And another edition came with it... This boxset is almost a copy paste of Fable III because it has the exact same size and shape. Content-wise, it's good enough to justify its purchase after the recent price drop. Haven't played the game yet, hopefully will soon.

I lost my souls when I died... and my money when I bought this.

I must say that I sold a part of my soul to get my hands on this rather rare press kit for the game Dark Souls and now I'l regretting a little... I mean... It's just not worth to pay so much for things that really don't have much value because their quality doesn't meet what it would be expected... With the money I've spent on this, I could have bought two or three of the most recent collector's editions, but I didn't. It's a shame, but I know that with time my remorse will go away. The box is a little fragile, mainly made of card with several stickers covering it. Comes with a very small book, a zippo and the promo version of the game, all placed in a foam inner support. I've seen this only three times for sale and the first one ended for over twice as much as I paid for mine. But now I see it really isn't worth that much for sure.

How tough could it be to get a Crystal?

Damnn, another final fantasy game, yet another limited edition going insane on ebay after it became sold out. Stipud HMV decides to cancel my order one week before the release that, when it's already too late to find it in any other place. But suddenly they have a few more copies in stock. Zavvi, on the other hand, pulled a very dirty stunt... The edition was available for sale on their website for 59 pounds. It became sold out pretty quickly. The game gets released and this edition pops up on their ebay outlet store for TWICE AS MUCH. Seriously, WHY????

I had to get this edition from local stores. If it wasn't for that, I would have missed the PS3 version because it was pretty hard to get. I eventually picked up both, being such a Final Fantasy Fan... actually, I was a fan of the original 3 PS1 titles, and that's still one of the main reasons that makes me collect all games and editions from the series. If it wasn't for that, I'd not worry so much with buying the same game/edition for both consoles...

Right now I'm only missing the two exclusive slipcases and the blue slipcase for PS3 of the original FFXIII game.

Oh and I can't forget to mention that I also have the two preorder tin cases, one for each console, both factory sealed. My only complain is the fact that this is a steelbook and no matter how good people consider them, they rust where I live - and no I don't live in a pond, I live in a sunny country actually. Overall it was a fairly good preorder bonus to be honest.

Another slipcase

I may not like steelbooks, but I do like those useless slipcases that come with regular games! I am still missing a few but wish to get them all. The latest was a Bumblebee slipcase for the game Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. It took me quite some time to get it but I finally managed to grab one for a bargain price, thanks to an amazing UK seller that decided to post to me. I am glad with that!

Resident Evil games will never be the same...

... or so I though after I played the 4th and 5th titles. I mean... the 4th game is great, and the 5th game is also very good, but they can hardly be called survival horror games... I miss the old T-virus and all those dumb zombies lurking around town... Resident Evil Revelations was finally released on Nintendo 3DS and I really needed to play that game. I loved it I must say. I loved it much more than the last few games (not counting the spin-offs). This really takes the game a little back to its roots, but this time it offers some very ugly and stupid monsters that have almost anything to do with zombies... They call it the T-abyss virus... PU-LEASE just call it whatever you want but if there ain't no zombies don't call it T! Really!

Anyway, I still enjoyed the game quite a bit and went straight to the end in just a few days. Also played some of the extra missions and they are very enjoyable, with level ups and weapons to purchase and upgrade. As you can tell already, I got the Circle Pad Pro bundle. It really improves the gameplay by quite a bit. I can't play this game without it and I believe that, looking at how good the gameplay for this game is with the extra analogue stick, it will be very useful to other games in the future. At first I though it would be a stupid thing for Nintendo to release such an add-on, but now I take that back! My only concern though is that sooner or later new versions of the console will be released and the analogue stick ill be integrated in the console itself. This is 99,99% guaranteed and by that time I will want to spend on that new model. And that sucks...

If you have a Nintendo 3DS and still didn't get this game, please do yourself a favour and get it now - it's not just one of the best games in the console with impressive 3D effects but also one of the best Resident Evil games I played in a long time.

There's only one World. Fake.

It took me a very long tome to finally decide to buy this edition, until I couldn't hold any longer and bought it. I left behind two other editions from the previous game, the smaller Premium Edition and the most recent Velvet Edition, which unfortunately I don't think I'll get any time soon. The game itself looks pretty good but unfortunately the reviews were not that great. This is yet another game I never really planned to play but I believe it has some gameplay issues looking at the videos. I can't really judge the game without playing. This "Strict Limited" (yah right...) Royal Edition includes a good looking tough box, a Dragon Queen Hand-painted figure and a small hard cover artbook among other goodies. It's pretty nice, slightly bigger than Assassin'c Creed Black Edition but still has an acceptable size, not TOO large... I'd rate it 8/10.

VITA comes out and what did I get?

Yeah, I'm boycotting VITA.

...

Not really, I just don't have the money and I really don't feel like buying that console because it didn't impress me that much when I tried it at a demo kiosk... If I had some spare money I'd probably pick it, but unfortunately there's NO WAY I have the money to pay for the console and all the accessories and memory stick knowing that so many things will be coming out in recent months. I'm leaving this console behind. But to be honest, there's another thing that suddenly became a little hard to find in a brand new condition... Mine's an old store stock, but it's new and remains untouched thankfully. I'm talking about the PSP Go. It became a little hard to nearly impossible to find over here and it was discontinued by Sony as you already know. I thought it would be best for me to buy one before it was too late to find one new...

It's Here?? It's Catherine??

I can hardly believe this game was released in Europe. If it was years ago, european publishers would just ignore this game I bet... I can hardly wait to play this game but I also heard it''s quite difficult. There are two types of tough games: those that are frustrating and those that are not. I seriously hope this game falls in the second option.  I'd rate this edition as 7/10. Why? Because the american version is so much better than this thanks to their original bonuses and even included the preorder soundtrack and artbook inside the original case. In Europe the only retailer that actually had this bonus was GAME, but nothing was known about this. But for a little over 40 euros directly from Amazon, it was an amazing price!

Zavvi does it again...

And here I am, impatiently waiting for my Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Limited Edition from Zavvi.com. A couple of weeks ago they posted a video on Youtube, showing someone from Konami unboxing the edition. I immediately realised how fragile the outer cardbox was and I started to imagine receiving the box damaged. I left a comment on that video telling those guys to protect their packages well so they wouldn't arrive damaged. It was the most voted comment (11 votes... not a big deal, but still...).

Finally my order was shipped. It did not come yet because packages from Zavvi take ages to arrive. I wish this wasn't an exclusive edition from their store...

A lot of people started to receive their games damaged or destroyed. Some came with mild marks and creases, whereas others are nearly trashed. Some editions were forced inside smaller boxes where they couldn't fit. Others were placed diagonally. Seriously Zavvi, WHHHYYYY???? I have two editions coming, one for PS3 the other one for Xbox. They'll arrive any time now and I am very sure they'll arrive damaged. I'm quite worried about that. Let's see what's going to happen. I will let you know when they arrive.

Wait... helicopters? What?

Despite the low prices, the fact is that I still don't have that Limited Edition.... yet. But to compensate for that, I was able to get something very important and specially very beautiful. Sometimes it doesn't take much for me to love a particular edition. Sometimes it's just how it looks, or simply because it's part of a game I love. This is exactly what happens with the Ace Combat Allied Assault Press Kit - or Press Briefing Box to be exact. The outer box is just beautiful, one of my favourites so far in recent times. It also comes with the promo version of the game and trust me - I'll play this one! It's an ace combat after all, one of the first games I ever played on PS1 =)

Those guys from space...

I'm not really a fond of Warhammer games because the first titles are mainly strategy games for the PC and as you probably know already I don't really collect pc games. At all. Last year this Warhammer 10000 Space Marines came out and it seemed to be a 1st person shooter. It's not the first time the series takes one step sideways from the strategy style but... I'm not a fan of shooters as well. So you pick up one series that combines mostly PC games with strategy and shooting gameplay, and you probably have one series of games that I totally overlook most of the times. True story.

Even knowing there was a collector's edition for this game, I didn't really feel very interested in it. Maybe the reason why was because there were too many editions coming out at the same time and I'd prefer other games and stuff since I don't have money to buy all the stuff that's coming out. It's creepy.  Game Publishers, PLEASE STOP RELEASING SO MUCH STUFF. Videogaming markets are becoming more and more like DVDs and I do. not. like. that. AT. ALL. Thankfully - or not... - everything will change once we go digital all the way. No more physical games, no more raw materials being wasted in producing discs and cases and covers whatsoever.

Now the question is... How the hell did I start becoming ecofriendly in a message about Warhammer?

Okay, back to the subject. I was quite impressed to see the quality of this edition. The box itself is really tough! Quite durable, and great looking as well, since it has a foil effect. The contents are not the best in the world, but quality wise they come close to some of the best I've seen recently. This edition is quite an eye-candy even to me.

Chrome Trouble

I was just told that Google Chrome wouldn't open my blog very well. So I decided to try it out. I just confirmed it. When I open it and try to scroll down, I feel the lag... I don't know why that happens if all other popular browsers I tried (IE, Opera, Firefox...) worked just fine. Image size? Number of images displayed? Overall loading times due to excessive amount of in formation in the first page? Who knows???
