Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year

Yeah I haven't updated this for a while but I have some new stuff to add to this blog. I am currently starting to purchase some important retro games. Only the ones I really want though. I also need to purchase new materials and new furniture to protect everything I currently have. My room is really small, I don't even have the appropriate furniture to keep all these boxes but I will change that soon. I'm finally taking a break of purchasing special editions. I still need to buy many though, but I'm really short on money and I can't keep up with so many rare items and new releases at the same time. right now I have about 150 special editions of all sorts and there are at least 30 that I do not have yet, but I expect to get them with time and patience. It would not be fun if I could get everything at once anyway and this is the reason why I give so much importance and value to my collection.

I managed to get a Wii for this christmas with Wii sports and the new Zelda (thanks mom :D). I also purchased a special box set of Breath of Fire 3 and a Nes Classic collection box set for Gameboy Advance, among a few older games, used and new / sealed. I am also selling some duplicate items I have to release more space for new items.

Anyway, enough talk. I will update this really soon. Meanwhile, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for everyone that visits my blog :).

The missing RPGs

I missed these two for a pretty long time. Now havem the both. Finally, my ps1 rpg collection comes close to a completion. I have all the main ones anyway, except Alundra 2 and Jade Cocoon. Those will come soon. Both are brand new and unused.

Favourite editions #10

The last edition I chose as a favourite is this Ridge Racer Type 4 pack. There are two boxes with different contents. This one has a limited edition game with a special cover. The other one has two discs, one is the game and the other is the soundtrack. I have them both. This also includes other items such as a t-shirt / cap, and leaflets about the game. It took me a while to get the two of them, but these editions are not quite rare since there are about 12000 units. The one pictured is still sealed.

This is a very rare Alien Hominid Eurogamer Edition. The good thing about this is that there are only 100 in the world. Not the rarest item in my collection, but a serious treasure here...

Favourite editions #8

This strangely shaped box is a Medievil 2 press kit. It's very unique but unfortunately it's also very fragile. This particular one is signed by the creators and there are only very very few signed like this one. I do not thing the signature adds more value to it though but I also own another one without the signatures.

This special box is is from Primal. Very interesting indeed, and one of the first boxes I got. This editions was what made me collect games more seriously. That's why it's so important in my collection. I will now dedicate to purchase more regular editions since I already have a lot of special stuff. I will obviously give priority to the special editions but from now on I'll focus on many usual games. This box is made of card attempting to imitate an old wooden box with a scratch. The inside looks really good. Comes with a very interesting notebook with information about the game and two discs. Also comes with an ilustrated scroll.

This red tube is a special edition of the game "Rise to Honour" with Jet Li. One of my most special editions I have. It comes with a black t-shirt, a paper with information about the game, a big kakemono (or whatever it's called, like a poster) and tree discs including the game itself. The tube is pretty big. Really unusual.

Favourite editions #5

This is a Survival kit for Tekken Dark Resurrection on the PSP that includes a promo copy of the game and an additional DVD. Also comes with an informative book and 14 survival cads for the main characters tha tells you real-life procedures to protect yourself against the character's attacks in the game. Most of those cards *were supposed* to be funny. This particular edition is quite important in my collection.

This Metal Gear Solid 3 book is a very interesting one. It comes with a paper model of Metal Gear to build and several leaflets about the game. Also includes information about the Twin Snakes on GC. This is one of the official leaflets released in Europe to promote the game and is very hard to find. I will post the other edition when I have te chance.

The most creepy box I have is this Ghost Hunter dead doll box, imitating an old "top secret" box. Rare as hell. Comes with several DVDs including a promo copy of the game.

One of the most interesting boxes in my collection is this Jak & Daxter Wood box. Includes a map, a book with 3 DVDs (one of them being the original game disc) and a t-shirt inside a bag. The box itself is pretty big. Awesome.

One of my favourite editions is this Sony Pack. One of the most simple editions I own, yet probably the one I like the most. Includes small game leaflets for Shadow of the Colossus, Genji, Everybody's Golf and Soul Calibur 3, as well a Demo DVD for all games and a bonus DVD with additional features. Everythin PAL, as I basically collect PAL stuff.

Bored...

I will be listing my favourite editions and games in no particular order pretty soon, so you can expect more pictures of cool boxsets and similar stuff. I have not purchased anthing new, but I will dedicate to regular games and stop with the special editions for a few months unless something important shows up. There are a lot of things I did not show yet but I think it's best to show my collection slowly.

Syphon Filter

When the PS2 was almost here, Syphon Filter 3 was still being released for the PS1. In fact the Syphon Filter games did not call my attention that much but I did enjoy playing through the first game and consider it a good gaming experience.

Formula 1

I must say thay I only collect the special versions of these games. I actually forgot to add the promo box for the new F1 2006 on that photo. F1 97 was the only game I really bought to play. I still consider it to be the best, and one of the PS1 classic games every good collector should add to its collection. I don't really enjoy playing F1 games tough. In that picture you see the F1 97 limited Edition (with a card sleeve that makes sounds when opened), F1 99 Limitd edition Box set, F1 2001 Special edition and the F1 2005 promo that's still sealed and I have no idea what's inside.

GTA

One of the most famous series after being released for PS2. The first games were entertaining but they didn't convince me much. A lot of people still love them. I started to take this game more serious after purchasing GTAIII the day it was relased. It's still my favourite and the one I played the most. It surely has a lot of violence, but I don't think this game will make people drive over pedestrians during the rush hour just for fun (lol). Let's see what I have... the limited edition of the 1st game, the collector's edition with all the main PS1 games and all PS2 games but Liberty City Stories. I don't know if I should purchase the regular PS1 versions knowing the collector's edition has them all but I am tempted to. Plus I must get the London Special Edition too.

Samurai Spirit

Onimusha series. Resident evil gameplay with swords and a much more dynamic gameplay. I really like this sort of games. My collection includes the original Onimusha game, Onimusha2, Onimusha 2 promo edition with an interesting card box and the Onimusha 3 Special edition with the bonus "making of" DVD as well as an outer sleeve. Unfortunately, the lack of cash and a few priorities are the main reason why I did not purchase the last Onimusha game yet. I don't really care about the Blade Warriors or the portable games but I might consider buying them some time later. Of all the games, I must say I liked the first two but I did not find the last one that interesting. However, the CGI intro of the 3rd game is one of the best and most impressive intros I have ever seen in a game, with very good battle scenes.

A couple of new stuff...

The background sucks I know. These are just a couple of items I purchased lately and that I could not add to the pictures already posted before. First is the Australian version of Budokai 3 that comes with a large tin to hold the other Budokai games. Secondly comes a Colin Mcrae Rally 3 version with a card sleeve and different cover. Finally, and mos importantly (to me), it's the Gran Turismo Geneve 2004 Demo that comes with the Toyota MTRC. I already have this in the NTSC Format but I finally managed to get the PAL version, since I basically collect PAL games.

Tired...

Unfortunately for me, I did not complete the last year in university yet because I couldn't finish everything for the exam. I only showed up at the final presentation to see how my friends would do. I'm really tired but unfortunately I will return to the university tomorrow. I only had a few days to rest but since I only failed at a single class I should not have much to do during this year. I now have some spare time so I decided to update the blog. I also hope to learn HTML and Flash within the next few weeks. I will be updating this blog shortly.

ICO

No, it is not one of my favourite games, but I deffinitely recommend it to someone who's looking for an adventure game and any true collector must have this game. My collection includes the regular version, the limited edition with art cards, a promo book with a demo and a game from the UK official PS2 mag and the Shadow of the Colossus cardbox game. I don't have the regular version for this latest because I didn't want but someday I might still get it. The most important and interesting item in this collection is the ICO box. Similar to the fortress walls, the box holds a candle and a double DVD pack. There's a meaning behind this: the candle inside this box represents the light in the middle of the darkness. If you played/know the game you certainly understand what this means.

Toca? A8 Supercars? DTM? What is this game?

Yes, they're all the same game. The name changes for a few countries. Toca is the name for most coutries. A8 Supercars is the Australian version and DTM the German version. In fact, I only have these games because they're the limited promo edition. I'd rather own the regular versions but I have time to buy them any time. These are kinda hard to come by. They were supposed to come in a metallic box, but the UK version was the only one I found wit it. As much as the metallic box is equal for all, I don't really care if I only have one.

Hadouken? No wait, this is bigger...

Stop saying Dragon Ball sucks. It's just different from the other anime. If you're a Dragon Ball fan like I was, avoid the PS1 games at all costs. Ultimate Battle 22 is beyond horrible. Final Bout is... well... playable... The Budokai series kicks major ass. Budokai 1 is good. Budokai 2 is very good. Budokai 3 is Excellent. Tenkaichi is not really a budokai game, but good anyway. Budokai 3 deserves a place in any collection.

Getaway... or get caught?

The Getaway. An example of a good game that could be much better. I really enjoyed playing the first game, but I recognize the gamepaly is not as good as it could be. This game lacks interaction with the rest of the city and kinda fails to provide the real city environment. It's certainly worth playing though. Currently I own The Getaway, The Getaway commemorative edition, The Getaway Metallic box and The Getaway Black monday Promo videtape box. Still missing the original Black Monday game, but no big deal since I can get that any time for a good price. There are other priorities for me.

WRC

Rally is what I call the most advanced driving challenge . One must master most driving techniques, learn how to drive in any surface, in any weather condition and as fast as possible. It's something like the ultimate challenge for the real driver. Nothing in the world of professional racing is as intense as rally. I do enjoy other types of racing challenges such as GT, Drifting or Street Racing. Whatching movies of those insane drift battles in Japan is pretty cool. The "rally spirit" is something totally different though. Anyway, my WRC collection includes basically boxsets for WRC 1, 3 and 4. I also have the original WRC4 game and I'll buy the regular ones if I ever see a good chance. I also want to buy more driving games. There are so many... Burnout, Midnight Club, Need for Speed... I almost have no games from those series :( Man, my collection is far from what I consider the "ideal collection"...

Originality at its best

5 games... All of them are unique and different from most of the others... If you collect games and don't own these, you should consider getting them as soon as possible. ICO and Shadow of Colossus are adventure games like no other. Katamari, Rez and Alien Hominid are examples of games that stretch the developer's originality and creativity. Tese are totally different gaming experiences in my opinion. Gotta love t play katamari :)

The King of the Beat'em Ups

There are plenty of beat'em ups that are really good. Tekken is among the good ones. I enjoyed playing Tekken 2 far more that I expected. I never owned it though. When Tekken 3 came out I knew I had to buy it. I played that game for years without getting tired. I managed to get some cool versions of the series, and I hpe to get Tekken 1 and 2 someday.

Metal Gear Solid. Nothing else needs to be said.

I know, I know, there are things missing, such as the VR missions, the Premium Edition and the release pack of MGS2. The Premium Edition is one of the really important things I'm missing in my PS1 collection. It's just that I gave priority to other things and ended up leaving this edition behind for years. But I will get it eventually. Anyway, I think I have some rare items in my collection. Includes MGS1, MGS2 and its limited edition tin, MGS2 Substance MGS3 with HMV exclusive card sleeve and MGS3 Metal edition. I also have the MGS version for Game Boy colour, wich was left of the picture because... I forgot :P I will add more MGS games soon.

My Gamecube Collection

Here it is, my gamecube collection. I have the limited edition console with the resident evil 4 game. It's all inside the box except the game itself. There are plenty of things I will get for this console whenever I have the chance. It's not my priority right now.

The collection includes Zelda The Four Swords with link cable, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat wth Kongas, Pikmin, Pikmin 2, Zelda Wind Waker Limited Edition, Animal Crossing, Starfox Adventures, Super Mario Sunshine, Baten Kaitos, Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes, Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles, Resident Evil 4 with the bonus disc, Metroid Prime and Eternal Darkness. I also have Geist.

RPG forever...

Rpgs are probably the most fantastic gaming experiences. Not everyone likes these type of games, but they're great. Some of these games are truly remarkable. The story is so well done and intense that it almost makes you feel as one of the characters. Most games are not available in PAL version, meaning that I did not play a lot of claimed titles such as Xenogears, Chrono Cross, Wild Arms 2, Lunar I and II... well there are way too many to list... And remember: Final Fantasy are not the only good
RPGs out there.

The first picture shows two of my favourite games: Vagrant Story and Legend of Dragoon. They're both amazing. Legend of Dragoon has a really good plot, and it is not a Final Fantasy VII rip-off unlike many people say. Vagrant Story is a particular game. It's so unique, complex and beautiful that Square used similar battle concepts in Final Fantasy XII. This game never had the attention it deserved, sadly.

My collection includes what you see: Breath of Fire III and IV, Wild Arms, Grandia, Suikoden I and II, Vandal Hearts I and II, Alundra, Front Mission 3, Legend of Kartia, The Granstream Saga, Saga Frontier II, Legend of Legaia and Star Ocean: The Second Story. I'm still missing quite a few RPGs but I think I own the main ones. The empty spot at the bottom right corner is reserved for a particular game: Azure Dreams. Did you notice Konami has a big list of PAL RPGs that include some of the most wanted ps1 games?

Driving is a pleasure

I really like to drive my car down the hill at night. Sometimes I go too fast and I can hear the tires while turning. Saddly I don't have a good car and it's not even an FR so it doesn't drift. It does slide sideways sometimes though. But I'm not that good a driver though. Thankfully, Mr. Kazunori Yamauchi came up with this great game. It's not perfect, but it's the best you can find. And I thought playing a "driving simulator" was not as good as playing a regular racing game. I was wrong.

My collection includes GT1, GT2, GT3, GT Concept Tokyo-Geneva, GT Concept Limited Edition, GT 4 Prologue, GT4, GT4 limited edition (two boxes), GT4 Nissan Micra Edition and the official Nissan Micra Roma kit that comes with another copy of the Micra Edition, GT4 Limited edition Toyota Demo (NTSC) and GT4 BMW test drive demo. I'm still missing a couple of games though, gotta get them when I have the chance.

I love hot babes...

Miss Lara is one of them. I have been playing Tomb Raider since the first game was released. These games hide no secrets for me right now. The first games were great gaming experiences. Poor Core guys did a great job until they moved to the PS2 and released of Angel of Darkness (the 6th game). I still think Angel of Darkness had a great story but the gameplay was certainly a mess. Crystal Dynamics did a great job with the latest release.

Unfortunately, no handheld games with miss Croft in my collection at this moment.

It's just fantasy

Do I like Final Fantasy games? Hell yeah. That's what I have for now. The most important ones are all there. Soon enough I'll get the older games and maybe move to others that weren't release outside Japan / US, such as Tactics or FFX-2 Final Mission. I'm still missing I+II for the GBA and XII wasn't released here yet.

Saturn's friend

My playstation was bought almost two years after Saturn. I had them both connected side by side before I moved to PS2. After purchasing the PS2, my PS1 stopped working. I had to get it fixed. I sent the console alone to Sony and a couple of weeks later it came back to me, brand new and including all cables and a bonus controller. It's still brand new and kept inside its original box since then.

My new blog

I've been a videogame fan since I was 6. By that time I did not have the money to buy games or consoles, so I had to rely on my friends to be able to play videogames. I managed to get a Master System 2 when I was 9 but stupidly my parents gave it to another kid after they bought me a Sega Saturn. That's right, I missed many important consoles like Megadrive/Genesis and SNES, even though I played them quite a bit. I was about 12 when I got my Sega Saturn. It was so hard for me to get it that I took very good care of it. One year later I bought a playstation. Since then, all my games are still in my collection, in mint /as new condition with almost no surface scratches (95% new when seen under a bright light) and including all inserts. That was quite an achievement for a 13 y.o. kid if you ask me. Right now, I'm taking my collection a bit seriously. I created this blog when I started buying games for older systems. I plan on collecting games for the main consoles I played as a kid and new generation consoles:
-Game Boy
-Game Boy Colour
-Game Boy Advance
-DS
-Game Gear
-Master System
-Megadrive
-Sega Saturn
-Dreamcast
-Playstation
-Playstation 2
-NES
-SNES

Right now I'm concentrated on PS1 and PS2 but I grab all oportunities I can to get the games on my wish list for the other consoles.

And...

Another thing I like to collect is japanese robots and action figures, mostly based in videogames, anime or sentai shows. Many of the robots I own come from the japanese "power rangers" series, some of my faves when I was 7. I only care about the dx transformable versions and diecast action figures.
