Instantly worth it just because it's Zelda

Yeah, Majora's Mask for the 3DS arrived and so did this little Special Edition that I obviously had to get. It reminds me of the moment when I originally bought the Limited Edition Adventure Set for the N64, the first huge purchase that made it to my collection back in 2005 or 2006 I believe. It's been around 10 years!

Hagane means Steel

This is proof of how some uncommon older titles became hell on earth to buy within just a few years, after the recent retrogaming boom. I've known this game for quite a while but I never really paid much attention to it. At that time, I noticed it was an uncommon title but not that amazingly expensive compared to most SNES rarities. My interest for this game only grew a couple of years ago. For some time it became my number one SNES priority. However, this game was far harder to track down than I originally imagined. I've seen complete copies of this game going for less than 100 euros many times in the past but once I've decided to buy it it seems the price more than tripled. Eventually, one opportunity popped up and I've decided that it was now or never. Best decision ever, because this copy of the game is as good as new.

All your update are belong to us

I believe I'm done with the updates. There are some stitches that still need to be removed, but most of the important things are done. All images now have the same aspect throughout the entire blog, many texts were aligned, a few errors and typos were corrected and all the labels were updated. I obviously didn't correct my own grammar because I can't even tell what kind of mistakes I write but I spotted some atrocities written a few years back and I had to fix those. I also removed most of the group pictures with a mess of regular games and editions as I explained earlier. Those are gone forever. Editing hundreds of older posts is an easy task, but a really boring one at the same time, especially in a slow computer like this laptop I'm currently using. It took me many hours to finish this task and it's hard to imagine it's not completely finished yet.

I still have to update three older pictures because I've used inappropriate images for the background, two of which have watermarks that belong to paid websites which I obviously didn't pay for. The third one has a background with soft nudity in it, which seemed fine when I originally posted but I now considered it to be a little bit too explicit. I usually don't favour censorship but there are limits, so I'll be replacing the background on that one as well. All that copyright stuff kinda sucks, honestly, but I've been a victim myself. I was quite amazed to receive a newsletter some time ago from ShopTo and they've used my picture posted in this blog to promote their sales for the Xenoblade Chronicles controller bundle. I am that kind of a nice guy and I just let them do it because 1. the background belongs to the game which has nothing to do with me and 2. it's just a non-professional picture I've taken myself with a replaced background. Maybe I should have sued them and asked for a lot of money? Nah, that only works in civilized countries, not in one like this that's in the second world, just like an immature teenager who's still determining its sexual orientation. And of course, I don't really care if they used it and would never sue anybody for that, even though they could just have asked. I like educated people.

The Facebook page is now up and running but still with zero contents. I will only use it to "post the posts" that I keep writing here anyway, as well as some other random stuff related to games that I might just feel like posting. No big deal.

Updating this...

Oh no, another text message with no pictures. I'm a terrible person! But there's good reason for this.

I am doing some small updates to this blog. First of all, I've recently created a Facebook page where I'll post all the latest stuff that I write here. All the information, pics, comments and gibberish will be posted exclusively here, so the Facebook page is  not much more than a heads up of what's new here. I still like to keep my low profile. Next year will be this blog's 10th anniversary. I thought that I would eventually grow tired of it after a couple of years but it seems that it's still my favourite place to write stuff that I really can't write anywhere else.

Secondly, I am updating most messages in this blog since the very first one. When I changed the layout a few years ago, most of the older messages remained in the old format, with smaller images and outdated, inaccurate labels. Since I've kept all the original photo montages posted in this blog, I have the chance to update all the old style posts with bigger images to match the same format I'm currently using in the newer messages. And since I'm updating almost every one of the 400+ messages I've posted here so far, I'm also taking my time to update the labels and fix some small errors. I've added at least three new labels, such as Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. Basically, you will now have more options to filter all the posts to the themes you like the most. Up to now, you were able to filter my posts per platform but not per company. So if you are only interested in checking my Nintendo or Sony stuff, you'll now have that chance. As an added bonus, I've also created labels for some of the most popular companies such as Square (Enix), EA, Bandai Namco, Capcom and a few others.

Finally, I'm kinda sad to say that a few of the older posts and pictures I've placed here over the years will be removed. This blog has a very simple recipe: whenever I buy something interesting, I take a picture, edit it on photoshop in order to remove the background and then post it along with something I feel like writing at the moment. I don't post everything I have over here and I usually prefer to leave regular games out of this, unless they mean something. This basically works as a special gallery that I can enjoy myself and share with a small number of people. I'm nothing remotely close to a pro photographer and I don't have the patience to take fancy pictures of my stuff, so I came up with these easy, quick and enjoyable editions to remove the backgrounds and give my pictures a better look. It seems to work fine for me and it became a "signature move" of this blog. However, not every post I've placed here follows this criteria. Shortly after creating this blog several years ago, I posted some images with all my latest acquisitions. Some of those images are just messy bundles with too many regular games that don't look good enough. Now I've decided to remove them because I don't consider them interesting enough to be here. I will still leave some of the early compilation photos with multiple games from the same series because those make sense to stay and I still enjoy looking at them. The only problem is that some of those regular bundles sometimes contain important items that deserved individual pictures that I never took. It's okay, I still own all that stuff and I can take those pictures when I have the chance.

And that's it! I hope this is the last big text in a while :)

Some more love to the old GG

This one cranked my mind for quite some time. I've seen many pictures of the Master Gear Converter before, but I've actually never seen one with an official box. This is kinda confusing because it's pretty damn hard to find one of these things with the grey patterned box. I don't know where this comes from but for many years I was only able to find the exact same accessory but with different boxes that suggest they are not official. The converter itself seems the exact same no matter what the box looks like, so I don't know what's going on. Once I found out there was one with the official box, I had to wait to find one and that wasn't an easy task. Thankfully, it's here now, and this one is by Sega :).

When you finally get it...

It took me a pretty long time to finally put my hands on this game. This was another tough one from my wish list. For some reason, it took me quite a long time to get. Tails Adventure was the last Sonic exclusive title I was still missing, and I am pretty glad that I finally have it!

Not that easy to get...

I was amazed at how fast this one sold out even though it was quite pricey... Kingdom Hearts was a game I played and loved back in the days, but the second title didn't catch my attention as easily as the first one did. I never managed to finish the second game because I eventually grew bored of it. True story...

Considering the price, I don't know why they made such a fragile box. It's a shame some big companies simply try to catch the attention of consumers and collectors in general without really caring for them at the same time...

And yet another thing I wasn't expecting to buy...

After all that talk about the PS4, I've decided to post a pic of the GameCube Smash Bros controller. Then I posted a picture of the PS4. Now I resume the talk about Smash Bros. This is just not satisfying. But that's okay.

This is another thing I certainly wasn't expecting to buy at this moment. I never imagined the demand for these controller adapters would be so high. This thing is sold out and selling for absurd prices. I completely missed it, even though I had several copies on my hands. Thanks to a friend, I managed to get one copy of this bundle, which now happily lives in my house.

Missed it.

Yeah, missed it and had to pay 100 euros to get it, which isn't that bad considering how much this is currently selling on eBay. This is definitely the rarest physical copy of a game released so far for the PlayStation 4. It would be nice if I knew about it. By the time I learned about its existence, it was sold out. As expected, a ton of copies ended up on the hands of resellers and popped on eBay from all sorts of different countries. I am glad I have one, but I'm kinda upset for missing the original orders. I mailed the guys from the website but I received no response. It's a shame some companies don't give a crap about consumers in general.

I don't know much about the game because I never got to play it. Retro City Rampage DX. I really want to play this thing... Unfortunately my life right now is no good to be playing games, but once I sort my problems I will spend a few weeks without doing anything else but sleeping, eating and playing. Yup. I need to rest my mind. Being unemployed doesn't help my mind, but neither does all the crap that happened in the last 6 months.

Seems unfair...

I just realized that, after all this talk, I still haven't posted a picture of my PS4 20th Anniversary model. I mean, it's nothing THAT impressive considering this is just a picture of sealed box... But still, so much tantrum over this thing and no pic? Nah, this needs to be posted. Ladies and gentlemen, this is what you'll be buying off eBay for exorbitant prices from now on... because you don't know what you'll be getting until you actually open it.

My showers are taking longer...

Well, I guess I still have quite a few things to write about... but this blog is becoming more and more text-based with less pictures and I don't really want this to be happening. So, in order to clear my mind about all the sh!t that still needs to be fixed with my life, I'm spending some time taking some pictures of my latest acquisitions. And I shall start with this tiny thingy released not too long ago and suddenly it became sold out. It's a Super Smash Bros. Controller for the Nintendo Gamecube, to be used with the controller adapter.

It's quite impressive that one of the less successful consoles ever released by the big Nintendo is still leaving its mark on the market after such a long time. In my honest opinion, I think Gamecube was a pretty decent console. It certainly couldn't outmatch the PS2, but I still prefer Gamecube over the original Xbox console. I definitely had some hate over the original Xbox console, which now came back with Xbox One and that's one of the reasons why I didn't buy it - and I seriously don't expect to get it any time soon. It's true that my collection was largely focused on every mainstream console released since the 8-bit era, but  - I've said it before - it's time to change something now. It's becoming increasingly hard to collect videogames nowadays, so a couple of months ago I've made up my mind about just focusing on the most important games I was still missing. In order to do so, I had to sacrifice a ton of recent games. I've decided to stick with the PS4. Sorry Microsoft, but I've always disliked your policies and I always had a crush on PlayStation.

I had no serious intentions of spending the few money I currently own in on this controller at this moment. I really thought no one would pay attention to it, especially considering how poor the GameCube sales were in this country. It's not that special to be fair.. That logo alone doesn't make it impressive. But... knowing it was the only Smash Bros related item, the low number of units available and the fact that it was nearly sold out, I've picked the last opportunity I came across to avoid regrets.

They replied back!

Even though the response was not that useful, it was by far the best response I've received so far from a big company. A personalized letter from an actual person in my mail box. Thank you, Sony. Too bad I still need to sell the second anniversary model for a pornographic amount if I want to keep up collecting for the next months...

The rants are over

I'm done with those rants about the limited PS4. That was a waste of time. My console will finally arrive tomorrow, unless that mistake Sony made with the address delays delivery even further...

So... soon I'll resume taking more pictures of my newer stuf with those n00b backgrounds I so much enjoy :D

PS4 Anniversary, the dirty way. F*** the police!

So, since my only chance to buy a PS4 20th Anniversary Edition over here was to enter one of the auctions that ended for a minimum of 855,00€, I was motivated by a friend to ignore my principles as a collector for a minute and do the exact same thing I complain about: reselling. Yes, that thing I hate. I'm being as hypocrite as those who entered the auctions "just to help charity and not to buy the console..."  - or nobody, to make it short.

I've bought two models from those auctions, I'll put one of those on eBay and I'll ask enough money to hopefully pay for both, or at least just make sure I just end up with less 500,00€ out of my pockets to match the true price of the console. Well, to be honest I only bought one because nobody was allowed to buy two, so I made someone buy the second console for me. Sorry Sony, it was either that or nothing. I couldn't afford a single unit for 800+ without any return, being unemployed and such.... I couldn't even use my credit card to pay for a single auction because mine doesn't have a monthly limit that high. So now I have a dept to clear, which I will, after selling my second unit.

Right now I care as much about selling on eBay as Sony cares about people like me, especially if they live in a small, "nobody cares" country that is completely dependent on Spanish residues. Because that's what the Portuguese market is all about: the majority of the big global companies are always based in Spain (because profit), they add "Iberia" to their name in order to include this country as an appendage (because more clients), then they send to us whatever isn't too successful there with all the information, costumer support and websites in Portuguish. And they act as if they were working very hard to provide to our market... Pretty much like Nintendo and Ubisoft, two companies that love to bring titles to our country with Spanish covers and subtitles. Thankfully, the majority of big UK stores and websites are very open to international costumers and sell cheaper, so it's usually a win-win situation and a great alternative to our weird market. There is at least an exception called (irony mode) Square Enix. That one's a tiny little company, so small and powerless it doesn't have the ability to send their exclusive stuff to more than a bunch of European countries... the poor fellows! (/irony mode). They remind me of how things were over here about 20 years ago.

Heck, we are probably the last country to get these anniversary models. They come from Spain, which got them one month earlier with the same auction procedure. The console was supposed to be shipped within 48 to 72 hours after payment being made according to the terms and conditions I had to agree with in order to bid. However, I paid 10 days ago and the console was only shipped yesterday... If I hadn't payed within 48 hours I'd miss the auctions I won... but after they have the money, terms and conditions no longer bother them so they can take as long as they want... Rules are for the weak.

Not to mention Spain got 350 consoles, almost 9 times as many consoles as we got, even though the country only has 4x more population than Portugal. A a result of that greater number in Spain, they ended about 100 euros cheaper.  In 2014 Sony's SE Vice President Neil Armstrong said Portugal was the most important market for PlayStation. But what's the point of that anyway?  This was another proof that it means sh*t!

I'm starting to blame my ancestors for successfully defending this country against the Spanish invaders a few hundred years ago. With stuff like this and incompetent political leaders to make things much worse, I seriously believe we'd be happier if this was also part of Spain. This last paragraph was enough to upset many people so I'll shut up for now. Even less visitors from now on, heh?

Aaaaannnd... it's an auction! A huge rant!

It's a fact that I've always had a terrible temper and sometimes look like an upset kid. Well, here's another one of my rants. Like the girl from Frozen said, I'll just Let it go, Let it go, Can't hold it back anymore."

I'm totally pissed at Sony Portugal. After all, there are 40 20th anniversary PS4 models available for this country... but  they are currently being auctioned with a starting price of 499€. This led me to write a complaint letter to SCEE. If they read the letter, there's a very slim chance they'll see this message. But seriously, I'm so disappointed I don't even care. Experience tells me one thing: the bigger they are, the less they care about their supporters. This is not a small company like Ghostlight that replies to every costumer. Giant companies have more important issues to worry about rather than paying attention to overseas letters from insects.

First, the UK executive came up with that speech saying Sony was upset about the sales on eBay. Yet, Sony Portugal decides to do the exact same thing going on eBay: auctions! And they probably have permission from the UK to do that. If I were to place a bid, I would always have to pay above the R.R.P. In the UK, many consoles were sold between 20 and 400 GBP and money went to charity. But people in Portugal have only two ways to obtain this console: either pay absurd values on eBay, or pay absurd values on Sony's auction... This means you either need to be rich or have plenty of money. To the "people who love the brand the most", they say... yeah right... That's pure BS.

But wait! Money goes to charity! Cool, isn't it? (irony) I'm such a mean guy, it seems so wrong to complain instead of worrying about charity. (/irony). It happens that the part of me that helps charity is substantially different than the other part of me that just wants this console. And 99% of the people who mix the two things together and claim they buy the console for charity purposes are just big, fat, hypocrites. I don't need to receive anything at all in order to donate to Charity, and even if I did buy the console from one of those auctions, I was virtually just paying for the console and not donating anything on my free will.

Getting this limited edition model already caused me quite some stress and now it's definitely impossible to find one for the RRP. Thank you very much, Sony Portugal, well done! And here I went through all the trouble to get all the Portuguese Limited Editions in order to support you, knowing they are worth nothing compared to the English versions (which I've had the chance to get instead...). You can't imagine how regretful I am now. Amazon UK is now my only friend for anything related to PS.

20 years of PlayStation in the worst year of my life

Damn... this was by far the worst year I've ever had. Even the most stressful problems and situations I had to deal with my entire life were nothing close to all this sh** that I've been through in the last several months. Too much stuff.

I've just entered the Playstation 20th anniversary competition in order to try to win one of those beautiful limited edition consoles. Unfortunately, I don't think I stand a chance. Last year I managed to strike gold by winning one of the Ducktales Remastered press kits from Capcom. I still can't believe how that happened and you can't even imagine my reaction when I opened the message saying that I won, I wish I had recorded that. It was the first time in my life that I've actually won something that big (free toys inside cereal packages or kinder surprise don't count...).

I live in a country with a relatively small videogaming market but at the same time it's the most important market for Playstation in the world (at least that's what people say... hmm, hmm) Yet, that means nothing when it comes to the availability of important items like the PS4 20th anniversary model. It simply won't be available for sale over here. Why???? PS1 is my favourite system, the one where this entire collection started. This model is so beautiful and special that it bothers me a lot to know I almost don't stand a chance to get my hands on it. I can't live with the fact that I won't be able to get one*.
*I obviously can easily live with that, but this is the internet, the place where it's too easy to troll, dramatize, throw tantrums and insult people.

Now Sony came up with those words about the PS4 being sold on ebay. Yeah, it's a shame to see such a beautiful and limited model created with pure intentions being sold on the internet for easy money. This is not what you guys at Sony wanted. Guess what: it's obvious this would happen. Welcome to my everyday world as a collector. A world where scalpers and resellers steall all the good or important deals and the put them for sale for a lot of money. Easy profit. Yeah, it's a shame that people like me and many other folks out there, who wanted the 20th anniversary console, will miss these or pay big cash for them. Out of the 12300 systems, many will be available for sale now or in the future.

Over the years I've done the best I could to get some of the most illusive editions I currently own, and that was not easy at all. I seriously thought that it would be impossible for me to get some of those. I guess I could say the same about the Limited Edition PS4 console.. that it's just a matter of time until I eventually find one... That PS4, much like many other items I am still missing, are just too far away from reach. Usually I would go as far as I could to get them. But, unfortunately, I'm already tired of doing that and this must stop at one point in my life. After so many years trying so hard to get the editions I wanted, things couldn't be worse for a collector:
1. An overwhelming level of speculation;
2. Resellers absolutely everywhere, even in crappy local advertising websites;
3. Stores with exclusives that refuse to send overseas because of their policies (this can be a PAIN);
4. Preorders sold out in a few hours that I easily miss and they become nightmarish to find;
5. Generic 2nd hand stores that had all the bargains now selling for higher than you can find on eBay with postage included;
6.  Digital Media Rights that require online and dedicated servers, which turn any physical version into something useless once the servers are gone;
7. Not to mention all the digital stuff, DLCs Updates etc that you can't collect.
All these things are taking away all the fun of collecting games in general. If there's no fun, I can't call it a hobby.

Anyway, this is probably my final post this year. 2015 will certainly be a much better year than this crappy 2014 that I'll try to erase from memories because there really isn't anything good that I can squeeze out of it.

I wish you a Merry Christmas or whatever you celebrate in your religion (if you have one). If you don't celebrate anything, then please have a great day. I also wish you a great 2015. I am very positive next year will bring good things this time around.

Is there a Smeagol?

People are talking wonders about this game and the only thing I've managed to get so far was the press kit itself. I guess that's fair. I will just pick a regular copy once the price is low enough :)

Ah... the memories... This brings me back in time...

Just kidding. I've only actually played Ruby Version for 4 hours or so. I bought the game but I found out that after spending so many hours playing the previous titles I finally got badly tired of Pokémon. I never touched another Pokémon game until Y came out. A break that lasted over 10 years.

I still had to preorder these two editions, which are kinda lame. They only come with steelbooks and I don't like steelbooks. Oh! I'm pretty sure I didn't mention this 100 times in this blog!

Unfortunately, they rust in countries with usually high humidity levels in the atmosphere and coastal areas, unless they are sealed. "Derrp we live in a hot, sunny country and we don't need thermal isolation and all that crap, so we can save money on materials and still ask a hundred thousand euros for shitty apartments". And nobody lives in the capital because houses  are old, very expensive or both. Not to mention we have some visitors from countries with much lower temperatures and snow that complain this country is cold during winter. No sh!t Sherlock!

Not sure if designer...

I do not understand what some producers or whoever is responsible for designing video game packages have in their minds. Seriously. I am not a designer but I was lucky enough to be born with this thing "called" brain that seems quite reliable, at least when compared to most models I find every day lurking on this planet...

So, whoever made the design for this extraordinarily expensive edition... failed. It definitely isn't the worst collector's edition I've had on my hands. Capcom (in the US and Europe only because Japan is full of badass stuff) holds the gold medal on that category.

To be honest, this edition is actually pretty decent overall, but unfortunately it has some big, stupid flaws that make it a little disappointing compared to the original images. I mean... Okay, so... no game inside the box. No news here, we've had that happen several times before, even with the newly released A.C. Unity: Guillotine Edition. But this time, the game is placed on the outer plastic slipcase, that has its own insert? That's new. What the serious business!? This is like someone having a surgery and the doctors leave the intestines on the outside.

It does not hurt too much to include an insert where you can actually place the game inside the box, does it? Because, you see, that's where the game should go: inside the box of the edition itself. And if there is definitely no place for it to fit because you were too lazy to figure out a solution, don't try to find an easy fix like this and just keep the game separated.

If you can ignore the slipcase disaster, the outer box is quite good. I'm not talking about quality or finishing because I don't know much about the materials, but the looks and textures are pretty cool. Then you open the box and remember how much you had to pay for it. Why? Well, if you are lucky enough, nothing is broken, because the interior design is horrible. I heard from the kind person who shipped this edition to me that most editions arrived at the German Gamestop stores with broken items inside and they had to be inspected one by one before being delivered to costumers. No wonder! Chances are you open the box and most stuff is out of its place, lying around loose, hopefully still in one piece but miserably falling from their places. The most fragile items are placed under the lid. When you open the box, they can fall. Yes, it's that stupid.

I know nobody gives a crap about what I think or write in this blog but here's a small message for producers/designers/humanoids that make these things: FFS this edition is almost 200€! If you're making such an expensive edition, make it right! People order stuff online like never before. People import stuff around the world. We have Paypal. People who buy this are mostly collectors who care about design, quality and condition of their stuff. A bunch of scientists just managed to land a satellite in a frickin' comet... That's a little harder and more expensive than making a decent package for a 170€ edition. Well, 170 if you managed to snatch a preorder before resellers decided to rape prices on eBay and other websites, like they usually do after they ruin all stocks from every store and website. Boxes and packages DO matter! Just make something that can last a ride without arriving in crumbles, please! Yes, I'm not the kindest person around but I paid , didn't I? Thank you.

BTW I'm talking about the Dragon Age: Inquisition Collector's Edition, but I'm pretty sure the text was too long and you immediately looked at the picture, so you already know.

I was brave enough to pay more than the default price for this...

Bravely Default Collector's Edition...
*Didn't preorder because I thought it wasn't worth 100 euros.*
*Still think it's not over 100 euros but had to pay more.*
Looking at this description, I'm not sure if it classifies me as a serious collector or simply a dumb person...

Not cool... The game's awesome though.
