Modern Warfare fever is rising up.

It's almost here, the most amazing shooter of recent times. Modern Warfare 2 is about to hit the stores with at least 2 collector's editions, including the heavly sough-after Prestige Edition. I already have one european edition preordered since last summer but I will only be happy once I have it in my hands as I never know if the stock will last to fill my order. I hope so because I really don't like to see it reaching prices of 300+ pounds on ebay >_>

With all the MW2 hype rising everywhere (what about the boycott?) I thought it was the right time to target something important I've left behind until now:

PS: Yes I will get the exclusive Veteran Edition as well :)

Meet the new members of the family =)

Finally, the older syster of my first consle ever has made it to my collection. I'm quite glad I bought this piece of history. This ones the "Plus" pack, which comes with the extra gun. There's also a similar pack for SMSII.

Yes it's true, up to this point I missed one of the most important videogaing pieces ever. The original Gameboy with black and white screen. I was never given this little gem when I was a kid and it took me plenty of time to get it because I had other priorities. Now that a good chance came up, I decided to buy it.

Okay so this might not be as old as the other two, but it's a very interesting item. The most beautiful PS2 console in my opinion. I felt in love when I first saw it, and now I finally have one in mint condition with a near perfect box :)

I'm happy to say that my console list is nearly completed. I'm missing only Megadrive 1 and both mega CDs as well as one Gameboy Pocket from the older consoles. However, my top priority will be getting a complete Multi Mega console. It will take some months because I'm more concerned with this terrible wave of new releases during the Xmas season and so little money available right now. Once I get all the games I want from this season within the next 4 months or so, I'll search the whole world for a complete MultiMega.

Tired as hell...

Another one of these?

Yep... I did not resist to buy the white PSP Final Fantasy Dissidia Limited Edition. Might have been a stupid decision to spend s much cash in a console I hardly even play, but considering I already had the Crisis Core edition and I'm a real Final Fantasy fan, I decided to spend some cash. At least this was released in Europe. Too bad the original Japanese boxes are much better. Instead we get a regular commercial package instead of the fine box with the logo on it. But at least it was released over here, which is good considering the majority of similar editions never leave japan! The collector's edition of the game alone is already heading my way as well.

A full set of interesting editions

As I've said before, I had a couple of editions in my sleeve but I was waiting for them. Now, to make a brief description of them...

Yes I know you've seen it before. But actually this one is different than the other. The picture included in the frame is not the same Prince but one of the bosses. And this frame is even numbered. I assume that there are more pictures of the other bosses with numbers as well, though I may be wrong, but if I'm rigth (I may be very wrong...) there are 5 diferent boxes and I currently own 2 of them.

This little gem is a FFXII press kit. Compared to its previous kits from VIII and X, this one's a little poor but still includes some nice art cards, a map and other extra stuff. All fit inside a fragile card box.

Bionic commando. Does this even have anything to do with the nes classic? Have to do some research... A promo edition in a nice boxset with a bonus t-shirt.

Ninja blade, a fine boxset that does not even include the game, only the promo stuff.

Now this one looks pretty good and even comes with the retail version of the game. Halo Wars, long box set.

One of the most original editions I've bought in recent times. This edition really seemed nothing special at all, but once I received it I loved it. A square box, completely green with the game logo on it. Once you open it, you see it filled with 9 real tennis balls. I usually take good care of these boxsets, so I only opened the box half way because I was afraid to open it all. But then I realised I was actually supposed to open the box like that when I noticed it was actually a tennis court. Very original indeed, I totaly underestimated this one!

Miss croft has this blue boxset with her sillhouette. Inside there are a few bonus items and a press disc, including an action figure and a t-shirt. Nice one too, but probably not as nice as the previous ones.

Batman rules once again

It's been quite a while since a videogame based in a famous movie or merchandise was considered a hit. Batman, for instance, had all sorts of games for almost every major console. Great games like the SNES version, bad games like the PS1 versions... but finally, several years later, one of the greatest american super heroes ever created so far is finally receiving the treatment it deserves. Dark Knight was a fantastic movie. I am not a fan of Batman - at all - but even so the movie itself was surprisingly good, very good. And now, the newest game known as Arkham Asylum is relased. Honestly, I did not think this game would be that good, but surprisingly enough it's already considered a top choice by most editors and reviewers.

The special edition of this game itself is quite surprising as well - a least at first sight. We probably all knew about it and how good it would look. When it was finally released it really seemed to match our expectations. However, the most important item of this edition, the boomerang (sorry, I can't get used to call it Batarang...) is a major disappointment.

The difference in price between this big boxset and the regular game is small that it doesn't make that much sense to buy the game alone and leave this edition behind. But if you expect to buy this edition specifically because of the boomerang replica which seems to be the most impressive bonus, then think twice. Unless you want it for collection purposes or for the extra content still interests you, the boomerang will probably be a major let-down. The plastic looks cheap and bad, not quite the materials that should have been used. It's completely scratched and looks bad because it was purposely made to look like it was used, just like in the game. And finally, the boomerang and the stand are a single piece, meaning you can't remove the boomerang alone from the stand.

Looking at the original pictures before the edition was released, the boomerang really seems something much bettar than this cheap imitation. It's a shame...

It took me some time to get this...

F.E.A.R. 2 wooden box with a creepy Alma doll. It really combines with my Ghost Hunter edition, considering how similar both editions are. This one was tough to get, but it's not the only one currently giving me problems.

More editions like this one will be coming very very soon to this blog, or so I hope.

Slim line now available.

Now that the PS3 slim finally came out, I stumbled across this mint condition PS2 slim model. It's used, but if you're well informed you already know the differences between this and the current PS2 slim on sale. I expect to get the newest model too, but not any time soon.

I won't be buying the PS3 slim now, not even close. The PSP Go is also coming soon but I am not really that big a psp fan to buy yet another PSP especially knowing it will be DL-only without any physical support. I an a fan of physical media. It will be impossible to collect downloadable games when there's no physical support. I understand that the production of millions of games and discs wastes way too many natural resources, and we have to get used to that because soon enought most consoles should all be like this in the near future, meaning it should be the end of physical software, no matter how much we like it or not. So basically, for me, PSP GO and PS3 Slim are out of the question.

PSP Final Fantasy Dissidia version was just released and I expect to buy that console next month. It will be what I call a waste of money in an expensive current gen portable system with little or no use at all. I wanted to buy the Red Resident Evil 5 Xbox 360 but I am currently struggling with so many things coming out at the same time that it is impossible to get a hold of everything. So, once again, I have to make decisions and sacrifices (if it's not a sin to apply this word when talking about videogames...) and decide what I really want to buy.

And Square betrays European gamers once again...

Considering that Final Fantasy is one of the most popular series all over the world, it's almost unacceptable that they never released an European version of Final Fantasy Tactics. It is one of the many RPGs that never came out of Japan and America. Shame on you, Square...

I decied to buy the american version a long time ago, but I was not willing to pay that much for it. I tried to buy a couple in the past, but lost the auctions. And suddenly, the japanese Millenium Collection Boxset shows up. I placed a low bid early and totally forgot about it, expecting that it would be an obvious loss.

In the end, I did won... Sometimes I struggle to get regular games for a good price and I never get them. Suddenly, something as important as this appears, and people seem to desregard it... It's not sealed, has some very light damage to the cover, but considering the final price, there's no hell of a way I'd regret winning the boxset just because of some very light damage, specially considering the contents are brand new... This is also another signal of something that started a while ago: my collection ig finally moving towards japanese and american editions and not just european games. I'll always prioritize european editions though.

Thankfully, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lion as released for the PSP...

Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway

I've said it before many times and I must say it again: I don't really appreciate shooters. However, I was very surprised to find out that the collector's edition of this game was released in PAL territories. I thought that it was a US exclusive release and I'd buy in the future, but since an European version is also available, I did not think twice. It surely will become a rare edition in the future for PAL collectors. And I, being one of them, could not let this one go. Comes in a hard card box with the game, one action figure, a comic book, 3 unlockable codes and a poster/map.

Monter Hunter Unite

Originally released for the Playstation 2, Monster Hunter became a very popular game in Japan even though it did not have such great impact in the US or Europe. The name says it all: the quest to hunt and battle immense and gigantic creatures through huge scenarios and dungeons. While it may look simplistic and not very original, it is a recommendable gaming experience to anyone and a game I particularly enjoy since the first release.

Above is the european press release boxset. A great looking box with a starter's guide, mobile phone strap-on and the game itself of course, immitating an old book made with reptile skin.

Finally on vacation...

It's been a little while since I've had some spare time. But now, I finally have two weeks for myself. I have too many things on my mind right now and I need to settle for a few days but I still took some time today to update this blog with a few new pictures and I expect to be receiving some very important items soon. Right now I'm a little over 1600 games. I do not have any particular goals in the number of games I wish to obtain though, but I must say that I still have many to get.

The gift I bougth myself for birthday

Sometimes I'm lucky. And find some great bargains when I decide to search for them. It happened with some games that I focused on getting, and really managed to get a few time later. Other times, I simply am not lucky. And this game bellow is the greatest example of something I did not buy for ages simply because I trusted my luck and expected to find it for a cheap price. Unfortunately, the opposite happened. Not only I was unable to find it, but the fact that I was giving priority to the special editions and promo packs (whose price has been rising stupidly enough) made me dellay its purchase for a long time. Long enough to its price increase significantly.

I usually don't take a picture of a single game if it's something common. But tis one deserves attention though. Not for being rare, not for being special or limited, not for being something I was dying for. But for being a particular game that I decided to buy a long time ago but never managed to do that until now. After such a long time, and thanks to a great, friendly person from the other side of the world who did not mind to send this to me, I finally got it. Not for the price I'd expect to pay some years ago, but deffinitely worth every cent I paid for it. It's just a shame that I barely have time to play it... I don't even own a Mega CD, never managed to get one in the condition I'd like, but that's far from being my greatest sin as a collector. I can still play the game thanks to the only unboxed console I have in my collection (and the fact that it's unboxed is starting to bother me quite a lot - so I guess I already know what's gonna follow next...).

From the genious creator of Metal Gear Solid (or that's what I hear at least), the one and only: Snatcher :). Now that I have the Pal one, gotta find the original japanese version (which is quite easier to get as well as cheaper) thanks to the censorship crap that I really hate. For god's sake, these are fictional games with cartoonish scenes, who the hell would be affected by this?

A few new ps1 packs

Yep, new additions for the old sony console. It's funny, I still live the PS1 with such a great intensity that I can't call it "old". It amazes me to think that most of the first PS1 3D games looked impressive at their time and now they mean very little compared to the newest consoles... But who cares, I just love them :)

Vintage limited editions never get old

This little treasure above was recently added to the collection. A good example of an overlooked item that disappeared for a long time, just to become another illusive collector's piece. And now that it popped from its hideout, it's hitting high values. Master System was my first console ever. This particular edition is the most special thing I have for it and I was not expecting to get it any time sooner in the future. I don't call this a lucky shot because certainly paid more than a lucky dime for sure...

Happy Birthday to me!

Yep. It's my 26th birthday within less than one hour. I took the day off. To celebrate my birthday, I bought myself a couple of gifts that I have been searching for a very long time. The most important one is right bellow:

The Sega Mega Drive Limited Edition Boxset of a great popular game back in the days: Ecco. It took me a long long time to get this box. It was quite expensive, but after so long without being able to find it, I took my chances and decided to buy it.

On a side note, I kinda feel sad for one thing... Ebay is no longer what it used to be. I am buying less stuff from there right now... Sellers are asking too much for items that were once MUCH cheaper, and buyers are paying ridiculous amounts of money for things that are not worth so much. But it seems that this new reality in the scenario of videogame collecting came to stay... I guess I have to be ready to pay more that I was used to in the past. The real bargains still exist somewhere out there, but they're far more scarce now. Another special thingy will be added soon and I hope new ones become available as well...

There are a few other items I have that ended for an expensive price, but they were, so t say, "affordable". Right now I think that only my zelda boxsets overtake this ecco edition. I'm quite proud of it though, but it was not easy at all for me to buy this thing. Money is an issue, ya know. Wish it wasn't but the lottery doesn't want anything with me. But still, I feel happy for being able to get these games with some sacrifices that only I understand and value. I'll keep sweating till the last drop to keep up collecting.

Is this really useful?

They say it's supposed to record images from the TV and some other things I don't know very well yet. Well in fact it maybe useful, but I actually bought it because this ain't something common over here, plus the edition on the pic is not the regular "for sale" set. This little device tells me it will become kinda rare in the future, although I may be wrong. Hope to give it a try if I have the patience any time soon.

The best of two worlds!

In recent times, we have seen some things that seemed impossible in the past. The most "shocking" one is probably sonic competing against Mario in the same game. That would be unthinkable in the past, but today everything's possible. And the latest team up brings us two famous worlds together. On one side, we have the legendary Mortal Kombat warriors and on the other we have the amazing DC Comic super heroes such as Batman. Mortal Kombat is probably among the greatest beat'em ups ever created in videogaming history. The games were quite something during the 2d and 16bit generation consoles. But seems its popularity is now quite far away from what it was. As for DC, we certainly had quite a few interesting games in the past (remember the Batman games on Snes? Those were pretty good!) but these heroes hardly ever appear in any other style besides action games. Ahh good old times where those Disney and hero platformers were amazing...
Above is the MK vs DC press kit. Another collectible I couldn't let go :)

Singstar is everywhere

This game is really everywhere, Sony started releasing Singstar games on PS2 and they were nice, but honestly there are way too many Singstar games and other titles that also use the same concept. I got this boxset here because it's something a little more special than the regular editions for sale and it even comes with the mics, even though it does not contain anything particularly exclusive. I was still missing the mics and wanted to get them somehow, so this came up at the right time. I should give the game a try when I have the chance, but knowing how bad a singer I can be, I'm not sure if it will be an enjoyable play (at least for other people living here >_>). The box itself is a great addition to any collection, as it resembles other boxes such as Gran Turismo 4.

Updating soon

This is another time of the year before summer and everybody wants to finish work before going on vacation... So I'm busy as hell but next week I'll have some days off thankfully as some time to rest is always welcome, and it pleases me to dedicate my time to rest, to work on some things I enjoy and dedicate a little of my time to my collection.

I have only listed my special editions lately but I do have plenty of regular games to picture. The next update will include some of those games. I have at least 5 new press kits heading my way - unfortunately not some important ones that I wanted the most that I'm still missing and I can't find them. I'll be also adding some box sets that I got over the time and never pictured them so far.

Back to the origins... good old days

There's a particular reason why I created this topic. After such a long time I finally made up my mind and decided to get the closest cousins of my original two consoles (check the first two pictures of my blog): Sega Saturn Model 2 and PSOne. My first console was a Timex, an authorized Portuguese version of Spectrum ZX. Then it was Master System II. I skipped several consoles that I was able to play at my friend's homes such as Mega Drive. Then Sega Saturn made my joy, quickly followed by Playstation. Good old days never come back. Heck, I'm too young to feel old already! Both are mint, although Saturn's box sows light signs of wear. But I am happy because they were quite cheap!

To celebrate 1500...

Sorry, I don't really have anything surprisingly new besides some regular games. So what you will see now is something you have seen before, with some slight differences. I'd wish to get some editions that I was not able to, so I have to keep searching for those. Hopefully, someday, I'll get them...

Unlike my collector's edition Ridge Racer Type 4 Boxset that seems to be exclusive to French, the same box was used as a press kit for other countries. I managed to pick this one for a pretty cheap price. It's not the regular collector's edition, but the complete press kit instead. The box is the same, only the contents change. Enjoy the pic.

My Snes Collection has now improved

As you probably noticed already, I have just very few old Nintendo games for NES and SNES. No matter how much I try to increase my collection, the truth is that it's no piece of cake to get a hold of boxed games in the desired condition and that cartridges only are worth much much less than complete boxed games.

I was pretty lucky this time. I found a buddy willing to sell his SNES collection and he had all of his games in a great condition. Now his great collection has now become part of mine. Thanks a lot for taking care of your games so well Artur, I'm really glad these games became a part of my collection and I will take really good care of them. I still expect to get the boxes of the cartridges that are missing it =)

For those wandering, those vivid colors on the background are the same from the Snes logo, to express the colourful colletion that I now have:)

And since we're talking about rare accessories...

... here's another one, in a mint condition: the Sega Master System Converter II for the Mega Drive console. It does exactly what its name suggests: in allows you to play Sega Master System game cartridges in a Mega Drive console. I guess this is what we can call the first retrocompatibility feature that a console ever had - I might be wrong, until otherwise proven. Shame on you Sony, with so many great PS2 games still around you should not have removed that feature...

While the first version of the converter exists in quite a few numbers and it's fairly common, this second edition seems to be very scarce, specially in this condition. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty glad that I bought it. Works with both Mega Drive I and II consoles because it has a small piece that allows to controll the height of the adapter for each console. It just fits each one perfectly.

Cables? What's that for?

The two items bellow are incredibly hard to find, yet quite impressive pieces of technology that only the most recent consoles are using regularly. Wireless controllers have been there in the market for quite a while. Using their age's techology, SEGA released infra-red controllers for its own consoles. These were pretty expensive back then, and that's probably the main reason why they become so rare. I fetl pretty interested in Saturn's wireless controllers after I first heard they existed. When I finally had the chance to pick a complete set, I did not think twice. As for Mega Drive controllers, these took me quite a while to get as well but with a lucky shot I got them as well.

Even the oldest 8bit console has its own piece of advanced technology. Yes that's right, the Sega Master System console had its own infra-red controllers. While not being produced by Sega, this licensed infra-red controller was produced by WKK. A similar controller exists for the Sega Mega Drive as well, but now that I have the original ones there's no need to search too hard for the WKK version. If I have the chance to get one, I'll get it, but I'll not search exhaustively like I did with the other two packs. This SMS controller only exists in individual packs on a single controller. So I did buy a second controller and that way I have two of each :)

Holidays!

Next week I'll be in holidays. I really need some rest so I'm taking the week to do some things I enjoy but didn't have enough spare time for them. I need to fix the labels on this blog, revise some typos, update my collection and list all my accessories as well - ironically I never paid much attention to accessories besides consoles and games but it's time to change that. In fact I already managed to get some rare ones and I can't even find the basic stuff still boxed...

I'll take some time to go on some small trips around my country to search for game bargains and visit some nice places, as well as meet with other friendly collectors. I'm also making a new blog about videogame collecting for beginners (in my own language though...) and that will take some time. Next update will include some new SNES games. I finally picked a full set from a very friendly person I met on a forum and thanks to that my SNES collection increased from 15 to over 40 mint games and 11 cartridges (I still hope to get the boxes for those some time soon). I am also very very close from reaching the impressive number of 1500 games and editions in my collecion and about 35 different systems. As usuall, I'll make some special posts with my latest favourite items to celebrate that :)

I'm giving priority in protecting my collection. I'll order a cellophane roll to pack all the boxes and editions in order toprotect them from dust and light damage while giving them a clean and crisp look. New screen protectors and labels will be bought to protect most of the systems I currently use from scratches and dirt, specially my 60bg ps3 console which will become an important piece in the future. It will take a lot of time to do all that, but it's all about collecting and the final result will compensate all the work! And, finally I'll also insure my collection and hopefully make some significant changes during summer if I have the chance :)

Pro Evolution Soccer in my collection? NO WAY!

Well, the title says it all... I hate football (or is it soccer?) the way it is now. I only enjoy playing with friends in real life, but I really don't like watching games on TV and I don't care about who wins/loses. One reason why I hate it is because of its popularity (compared to other sports, specially over here, where only football seems to matter...) and the way a lot of people react when their team wins or loses. Football has too much importance over here and it's considered a priority over interesting tv shows or important news.

Anyway, I am a collector and I still enjoy playing football videogames every now and then (though not for too long). I'd probably skip this game if it wasn't for this particular edition, which I'm pretty happy to own now: the promotional copy of PES 2009 Liverpool Edition. Quite rare, unavailable for sale. It's something really worth collecting for sure!

Project 8 Premium Deck

I am not a fan of skateboarding. The only other Tony Hawk game I have is the gift pack for PS2 (I have not seen another pack like that in several years. Can it be so rare?). But I had to get the premium deck, released to promote the game and made available to the general public. Some claim that only 1000 were made. I have no way to confirm this, but I felt I had to buy it. lost several on auctions because this is not the sort of item I'd be willing to buy for a hi price. But thanks to my friend Jm1.Jonas, I was able to finally buy a brand new one from an online store and for a quite amazing price. I'm glad I now own one.

One of the most beautiful editions I've seen

I am a big Prince of Persia Fan. In fact, I think that my favourite genre of games are not RPGs, but action/adventure games. The newest PoP game creates very beautiful environments, the game itself is a piece of art with amazing scenarios and excellent gameplay. However, IMHO, I think the game is very repetitive.

This particular edition here did not seem anything special at all. Until the moment I received it. I immediately felt in love. The black box, similar to the special preorder pack and tin editions, contains a Prince of Persia frame and an artbook. Just like the Shadow of Colossus Sony demo pack, this subtle box has easily become one of my favourites.

What was one of the greatest shooters...

... has now become what many people call a boring game.

Dear developers, when you try to add some reallistic sense to the games by creating a lot of huge environments where nothing happens, people get bored... The game's still good, but still... it kinda feels like you have to spend hours just walking. How can that be fun?

yOu Shot mE DoWn BaNgBaNg!

This game does have some really disgusting scenes. It was awarded for being the game where the F-word is used in a record number of times. And that's no exhageration. I've finished the game once and I've heard the F-word so many times it's almost ridiculous. House of the Dead Overkill marks the return of the well known arcade series to the console system, and it certainly is quite good despite the nasty scenes and obscene language used. It's making fun of movies where the dialogues are as good as crap - except that in this game they're actually fun. And the ending scene is really creepy. I mean, did the weird dude really went up his f**** up mom's... Okay I'm starting to talk like the game, enough here.

The pic above shows the promo release and the AUS exclusive BangBang Box set, smething I decided to buy when I realised the pain it would be to get it in the future. Better look for it now if you want it, otherwise it will be a pain to get, you hear me.

The Nomad now has a new home

When we think about nomads, we usually think of those middle-east desert travelers such has Prince of Persia (lame comparison...) that face the desert while traveling through oasis and villages trying to earn their livings not really sure how. That's why I put a house in the desert for the background, see? Nomads... desert... house... er... whatever... In western societies nomads are different. I can't quite figure if nomads are really "extinct" or if globalization and the end of the "one-lifetime jobs" concept is moving more people around the world, creating sophisticated nomads... Anyway (and to cut the crappy speech about nomads), this portable console was never released in Europe but it's a system that allows to play Sega Mega Drive (meh... I prefer call it that way instead of Genesis) game cartridges. That's quite amazing if you ask me. Specially if you have an A/C adapter >_>.
